The inflection of words is one of the most difficult parts of learning many foreign languages since there are numerous inflection patterns. "Verbs & Nouns" is an application that helps you to learn these patterns and refresh your knowledge about the rules for the inflection of verbs and nouns in a foreign language. The program has many other useful features to help you to learn or research a foreign language. "Verbs & Nouns" is a part of my Foreign Language Toolkit.
Features
The program lets you create a database of verbs or nouns in a foreign language. You can easily construct the inflection patterns (rules) for words that are regular. You can include other information about each word, such as a translation, grammar characteristics, comments, etc. in a convenient form. Comments are useful for storing examples of the use of the word, or for recording other information. You can use different fonts and styles in the comment box. The facility for merging databases makes it easy to share comments with other users. The program has an exercise window. It automatically generates exercises to allow you to practise inflection or translation. You can collect the words that you have already learned and let the program generate exercises just for this group of words. You can also identify many other groups of words (and collect them in classes) to use them in exercises or for browsing. You can attach databases updated by other users to your own database (to share comments, sounds and new words). The program has asynchronous sound support to associate the sound samples with words. There exist ready-made databases for "Verbs & Nouns" (see chapter Databases for Verbs&Nouns). The program allows the user to change existing entries of these databases.
Structure and Components of the Foreign Language Toolkit
 
You write the interactive lessons with Language Toolkit Writer and dictionaries (with inflection and other advanced grammar information) with the Verbs & Nouns program. You can browse the dictionaries and practise the foreign language on a word level using the Verbs & Nouns application. Language Toolkit Reader allows you to use both the Interactive Lessons and the Dictionaries.
The future components are: language toolkit text editor with hypertext features, easy text analysis and translation, Web capable utilities, Internet network lessons toolkit (to set up the real time lessons over the Internet) and more. The future of the project depends on the interest level.
Limitations of the Unregistered Version
If you do not register the program then some of the features are not available. Unregistered users can browse only the first 50 words from each database.
Registration
To get access to all the features of the program you should register your copy. The single user non-transferable licence is US $10 (or the equivalent in your local currency). You can send cash, money order (except a postal money order that is valid only in your own country), postal transfer or cashier check (no Eurochecks please). If you register before the release of the next version you'll receive the upgrade for free. If you pay after the release of the next version then, if you want to receive an upgrade, you will have to pay the difference in price (if the fee for the next version is higher). If you want to use the program in a lab or over the network then the site license for all computers within your network is $195.
